MH Residential Programs
Although recovery-oriented community based housing is a priority for OMHSAS, most Pennsylvania counties also maintain a continuum of residential programs for persons with mental illness.
Examples of residential programs include:
- Community Residential Rehabilitation services (CRR)
A CRR is a transitional residential program based within a community setting for persons with mental illness. CRRs provide housing, personal assistance and psychosocial rehabilitation to clients. There are different levels of care provided: Intensive CRR, Maximum CRR, Moderate CRR, and Minimum CRR.
- Long Term Structured Residence (LTSR)
A long term structured residence is a highly structured therapeutic mental health residential treatment facility designed to serve persons 18 years of age or older who are eligible for hospitalization but who can receive adequate care in an LTSR. Unlike CRRs, there is not an expectation that residents will necessarily move to another setting. This group home model can house up to 16 adults.
- Personal Care Boarding Home (PCBH)
A personal care boarding home is a residence that provides food, shelter, personal assistance or supervision for more than three unrelated adults. Residents may require assistance or supervision in ADL’s such as dressing, bathing, diet or medication prescribed for self-administration; but do not require hospitalization or care in skilled nursing or intermediate care facility.
